Stanford University Old Union
This photo was taken just prior to the Old Union's reopening after extensive renovation (September 2007). The $20 million restoration spanned a year and a half and included refurbishing the Old Union's performing arts spaces, as well as adding wheelchair accessibility via elevator additions.
Read more about the Old Union restoration project in a Stanford news release on the grand reopening.
The Old Union was built at the suggestion of Herbert Hoover and was completed in 1922 as a central gathering place for students -- including a billiard room and smoke shop.
