Lyford House at Richardson Bay Audubon
The Richardson Bay Audubon book center (The Book Nest) has a printed guide you can pick up prior to your walk on the nature trail. The guide details the various plants and animals you may find along your trek. Audubon asks for a $1 donation if you choose to keep the guide.
To reach the visitor center, turn right after you enter the grounds and follow the path to the visitor center.
To start on the nature trail -- as you enter the Richardson Bay refuge, walk toward Lyford House, a small museum on the Audubon grounds. The nature trail begins behind Lyford House, along the bay.
The home, built in 1876, belonged to Dr. Benjamin Lyford and his wife. The house was moved to this location from Strawberry Point to save it from demolition.
