Continue on the road, toward the Golden Gate Bridge. You'll see U.S. Coast Guard vessels in Horseshoe Cove on the left.

Horseshoe Cove and the surrounding land at Fort Baker provide habitat for numerous species -- both terrestrial and aquatic.

One of the most significant conservation efforts at Fort Baker is the preservation of the endangered mission blue butterfly. The butterflies rely on a variety of lupines for their survival. Removal of invasive species that encroach on lupines is part of the conservation program.

The cove is also habitat for seabirds such as Brown pelicans and cormorants. From the Fort Baker Pier, can watch pelicans and cormorants diving for fish along the waterfront.
