Cayuga Park - San Francisco - Excelsior District
See Cayuga Park on the San Francisco Parks Map
Cayuga Park should feel like an isolated and unremarkable piece of green in the shadow of Highway 280 and BART. Instead, the park comes alive with wooden figures and tree sculptures carved by the garden's caretaker, Demetrio Braceros.
Braceros transformed the 11-acre space into a showcase for his colorful carvings which brings visual splendor as well as messages of peace, hope and non-denominational spirituality.
A walk through Cayuga Park feels like a psychic escape from the urban life around the park. In and interview with Works and Conversations, Braceros spoke of bringing light to a place that had seen its share of darkness and crime.
