Leonard Cohen World Tour 2009
Nov. 13
The influential poet, novelist and singer-songwriter, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, also is a Jew and a Buddhist monk. His lyrical writing and songs over his five-decade career address social justice, power and spirituality.

Barbara Kingsolver

Kingsolver discusses identity, memory, cultural differences, justice, hardship and other themes that recur in The Poisonwood Bible and her other books.

Mole to Die For! Tasting & Contest
Nov. 18, 7-10 p.m.
Come and sample moles from different regions of Mexico. Awards will be given to the best moles made by professional chefs and the best homemade (non-professional) ones. Check out the Day of the Dead exhibition of altars, too.

The de Young museum store offers an expanded spread of home accessories, jewelry, books and stationery, all by local designers and artisans.

2009 San Francisco Hip Hop Dancefest

Popping, locking, b-boy tricks and other Gumby moves from performers around the Bay and beyond (e.g., Ireland, South Korea). One of the highlights is an amazing, physically disabled international crew.

Hamlet
Nov. 21, 2-3:30 p.m.
The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival presents a one-hour version of the classic murder story and morality tale, aimed at introducing audiences to the Bard. A Q&A session with the actors follows the production.

Christmas with Walt Disney

Celebration of Craftswomen
Nov. 28-29 & Dec. 5-6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The 31st edition of this crafts fair, which has a changing roster of 200 artisans each weekend, is billed as the largest event celebrating the craft of women in America. Shop for all kinds of jewelry, photographs, leather clothing, mixed-media collages, sculptures and more. The fair benefits The Women’s Building, a San Francisco community service center.

Cirque du Soleil's Ovo
