Submitting Photos to About San Francisco

We're always looking for visual perspectives from around the Bay Area -- with a rotating series of categories. Selected photos will be featured in the front page blog and in a reader photo gallery.

Topics, Submit Anytime:

• Your San Francisco**
  What's your San Francisco? It can be anything from a favorite taco truck to a hidden statue . . . a neon sign that's flickered for 30 years at the same spot . . . or something you take your visitors to see that guidebooks just don't cover.

  ** Also accepting photos from around the San Francisco Bay Area.

• Bay Area Wildlife
  Images of Bay Area birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects.
• Bay Area Flora
  Images of Bay Area flowers, trees, and native and non-native plants of all species.
• Street Scenes
  Photos of San Francisco neighborhoods, architecture, streets, hangouts. Photos must be taken from public property. And model releases are required for any recognizable individuals in the photos.
• San Francisco at Night
  Photos of nighttime and taken around San Francisco and the Bay Area. Images can be anything from interesting neon to sunset and dusk nature scenes.
• Bay Area Event Photos
  Pictures taken at parades, festivals, and other public events. Participants in parades and other public theatrical event do not require model releases. However, images focusing on recognizable individuals do require a release.

Photo Description

Include a description of the place or object you've chosen. (Historical or cultural data may be added to the photo description, if applicable.)

You may submit more than one photo, but please attach each photo to separate a e-mail with the form text supplied below.

Image Specs & Sizes

• Image Format: JPEG
• Minimum Image Size: The longest dimension of the photo should be at least 500 pixels. (An image shot in 4:3 aspect ratio, for instance, would be 500x375 pixels)
• File Size: Preferred size is 1MB or smaller
• ** To reduce the file size, use the "Save for Web" functions in applications like Photoshop to retain good image quality while reducing the size of the file.

Photo Qualifications

Photos will be picked on both the choice of topic and on the aesthetics of the photograph. I will not be able to respond to every submission.
