Shoreline Lake and Aquatic Center
At Shoreline Park in Mountain View, California
Website: Shoreline Lake and Aquatic Center.
The 50-acre Shoreline Lake and surrounding Shoreline Park are adjacent to the Charleston Slough area of the Palo Alto Baylands. Shoreline Amphitheatre is just south of the park.
Shoreline Park represents a land-use revival, developed on a former junkyard site. The lake uses salt water pumped from San Francisco Bay, circulated out through a creek
The groomed grounds of the lake and park are a visual contrast to the wetlands of the Baylands. The lake is open to recreational (non-motorized) boating such as kayaking, rowing and pedalboating.
But the lake is part of the larger wildlife sanctuary. The trails through the park lead to and from the trails of the Baylands. And, of course, the wild animals know no aesthetic bounds and are found throughout Shoreline Park and the Baylands.
You'll find interesting and migrating birds throughout the area -- including pheasants, and (depending on the season) white pelicans and brown pelicans.
Recreational activities at Shoreline Lake include:
- Boating: Rent kayaks, rowboats, pedalboats, and canoes
- Windsurfers and sailboats to qualified windsurfers and sailors
- Sailing and Windsurfing lessons
- Summer youth camps
- Lakeside Cafe
- Golf course
- Kite-flying area
- Dog park (dogs not permitted in the park, outside of this area)
