You can't walk by Aquatic Park without seeing a few swimmers enjoying the cold waters of the Bay. The adjacent Dolphin Club is a swimming and boating club whose members swim regularly in Aquatic Park, and take part in the Dolphin Club's sponsored swim events.

Just above Aquatic Park is the San Francisco Maritime Museum, closed until 2009 for renovation.

Walk past Aquatic Park to the northwest and you'll reach Fort Mason. It's possible to walk the full distance from the Ferry Building, past Pier 39 and through Fisherman's Wharf, then through the Fort Mason area to the Marina District. For a particularly ambitious day hike, travel on to Crissy Field and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Aquatic Park was built as part of the FDR's Works Progress Administration Project. The Living New Deal Project is working to document the various New Deal projects around San Francisco and California.
