A view to Ocean Beach, looking south from the Cliff House. San Francisco's Cliff House -- first built in 1863 -- was twice destroyed by fire before this current structure was built in 1909.
Adolph Sutro (who also established the Sutro Baths and a Victorian estate at what is now Sutro Heights Park) bought the Cliff House in 1881 and rebuilt twice, after two separate fires, including the fire following the great San Francisco Earthquake in 1906.
Ocean Beach stretches out almost four miles toward Fort Funston in the South, a beautiful dune space with a popular off-leash area for dogs and also history in the form of visible military batteries.
