At sunset and dusk, the area around the Sutro Baths is almost mystical. Depending on the evening and the conditions, the silhouettes of pelicans and cormorants fly above . . . the lights of the Cliff House reflect in the pool ruins . . . formations of clouds render the sky a canvas of colors.
The whole area around Lands End -- including the span of the Lands End Trail -- is one of San Francisco's most dramatic visual locations and well worth a stop if you're carrying your camera and a tripod. There are, however, posts in the area that can serve as makeshift tripods if you absolutely need the shot.
