San Francisco Street Car - F-Line at Fisherman's Wharf

The F-Line streetcars began service along the Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf in 2000. The project had been discussed since the 70s. After the Loma Prieta earthquake (1989), the construction began as part of the waterfront redevelopment project.

The streetcars used on the F-Line are historic cars. Most come from San Francisco and within the United States, but a number of streetcars hail from as far away as Italy and Japan.

The streetcar pictured here, Number 496, is from Melbourne Australia.

San Francisco Railway Musuem

The San Francisco Railway Museum near the Ferry Building on Steuart Street, has a wealth of information on the history of the streetcars. The museum is small but free, and has a shop with railway-related books and gifts.
