Aquarium of the Bay - Pier 39 - San Francisco

Aquarium of the Bay is unique to San Francisco in that the facility features aquatic life that's native to San Francisco Bay. The aquarium is also involved in conservation efforts, and supports a number of Bay Area groups dedicated to the protection of the bay waters.

Inside the aquarium, you'll find 50,000 square feet of marine exhibits -- of jellies and circling herring shoal. Herring are of particular interest in our global food chain, as the survival of many species of fish, birds and marine mammals hinges on abundant numbers herring -- at risk of over-fishing, as are most marine species.

You'll also walk through a clear, acrylic tunnels that emulates what life is like in San Francisco Bay. There's a moving conveyer path that takes you under and beside swimming sharks, skates, and other Bay animal life.
