Walrus Ornaments

These ornamental walrus heads remain from the Alaska Commercial Building -- built as part of a spate of civic improvement, in anticipation of the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939).

The existing California Building took the place of the demolished Alaska Commercial structure.

Throughout the Financial District, you'll see a variety of adornments -- it's almost worth bringing a pair of binoculars to scan the facades.
