Hooded Merganser
The Hooded Merganser winters in the San Francisco Bay Area. As with many other ducks, the plumage of the Hooded Merganser can vary dramatically not just from male to female, but from season to season, with breeding plumage more vivid and dramatic.
According to the Cornell Lab's All About Birds website, the Hooded Merganser can change the refractive properties of its eye to accommodate underwater vision and fishing.
