Goldeneyes
Common Goldeneyes are among the diving ducks that migrate to the San Francisco Bay Area for the winter. The birds are a beautiful sight with their striking color contrasts and vivid golden eyes.
A similar but less common species in the Bay Area, the Barrow's Goldeneye is distinguished (in male plumage) by a crescent shaped white spot on its cheek, as opposed to the rounder marking of the Common Goldeneye.
