Description

Guide Review - Cafe de la Presse

Café de la Presse is a split-level venue, with seating up front and outside, and a more subdued dining room just steps down from its prominent bar. The original mission was to create an authentic 1930s French bistro. The huge posters, the antiquated fixtures and the alder wood bar all conspire toward that end. On the perimeter of Union Square, it’s a cozy nook where, if you’re so inclined, you can linger at Cafe de la Presse with your galette and your Paris Match.

The wine list is small but you can actually get a glass of wine for less than $6.00 which seems like an anomaly in San Francisco. On the menu, the Tartes Flambees are standouts. The selection is what you might expect at a bistro: Quiche Lorraine, Confit de Canard, Croque Monsieur.
