The Bottom Line

Boulevard Website

Boulevard -- a partnership of Nancy Oakes and Pat Kuleto -- is a power lunch haven, a special occasion dinner destination or, for some, a neighborhood spot to grab a meal or a cocktail. The Parisian-style Audiffred Building where Boulevard resides, is a San Francisco landmark and one of the few downtown structures to survive the 1906 earthquake.

Pros

  • Food and presentation
  • Comfortable bar and restaurant ambiance
  • Cordial front staff

Cons

  • Can be noisy during busy bar hours
  • Expensive

Guide Review - Boulevard Restaurant

Boulevard Hospitality:

Our first visit to Boulevard involved a birthday celebration. We phoned early in the week to ask about a special dessert, and were told to call back on Friday to make arrangements. The week became chaotic, we forgot to phone about the dessert, so we resigned ourselves to living without the cake. We were amazed, when after dinner, our server showed up with a beautiful dessert decorated with a “Happy Birthday” message. This, after making only the barest mention of our name and our reservation with that first phone call.

That anecdote pretty much characterizes our feelings and affection for Boulevard. The setting is elegant but not stuffy, with the San Francisco standard of "business casual" as a dress-code guideline.

Boulevard Cuisine:

The menu is a mix of continental cuisine with dishes like filet mignon and wood-oven-roasted halibut. Vegetarians have fewer options on the dinner menu, with selections definitely leaning toward the carnivorous.

Sample Dinner Menu (2007):

  • Local Calamari Stuffed with Crab (appetizer) - $17.00
  • Atlantic Black Bass, Wild-Caught and Pan Roasted (entree) - $36.00
  • Sticky Toffee Pudding with Caramel Custard Top (dessert) - $10.25

Vegetarian Selections: Minimal - salads, occasional entree
