Banners mark the 9th Avenue entrance to the San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum. Funds from Helen Strybing gave birth to the first plantings, and the arboretum officially opened in 1940 as Strybing Arboretum. The name changed in 2004 to San Francisco Botanical Garden, creating more local familiarity for people who didn't know the Strybing name.
A stroll across the arboretum's 55 acres takes you through plantings from different climatic zones, the Great Meadow, the waterfowl pond, a fountain and a children's garden and play area. Entrance is free and the Botanical Garden is open every day of the year.
