As you walk down Commercial Street to Montgomery in the San Francisco Financial District, you'll pass a sign marking the original location of the U.S. Mint in San Francisco -- before it moved to the location on 5th and Mission.
The original structure is no longer there, but the Pacific Heritage Museum sits on the site -- in the 1875 U.S. Subtreasury Building which was built after the original mint building was demolished.
The Pacific Heritage Museum is a free museum featuring history of the Branch Mint as well rotating exhibits throughout the year.
