As you turn left on Montgomery (from Commercial) to walk toward North Beach, you'll pass a number of notable architectural beauties in the Financial District.
The Transamerica Pyramid tends to overshadow the block, but as you walk by 550 Montgomery -- the building closest to the Transamerica Pyramid in this photo -- you'll be passing a National Historic Landmark owned by First Bank. This building was opened in 1908 as the Bank of Italy -- an eleven-story Renaissance Revival building.
