The Barbary Coast Trail leads from Chinatown, into the Financial District. Commercial looks directly at the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero. Originally, the water came in as far as Montgomery Street.
An immense wharf, extending from Commercial, jutted 2000 feet into the Bay. Commercial was also the temporary site of the first U.S. Mint in California, before the San Francisco Mint on 5th and Mission was erected.
