Haight Street is named after Henry Haight, Governor of California (1867 - 1871) who was also a landowner in the area. There has been debate over the origin of the name, since there were other prominent Haights in San Francisco at the time. But the consensus appears to give Governor Haight the honor.
Henry Haight is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland (see Famous San Francisco Grave Sites).
