About the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) - San Francisco
The Museum of the African Diaspora at 3rd and Mission opened in 2005. Its mission has been to celebrate and explore the culture and history of the African Diaspora. Through that process, the exhibits aim to connect people through universal themes inherent in the art and the stories, as well as through our common, human ancestry on the continent of Africa.
The Museum Building
The MoAD space is bright and modern, with a beautiful integration of multi-media displays. The Slavery: Inhuman History exhibit (2007) was an engaging and poignant mix of framed displays (freedom papers), audio and video displays relating to the topic, as well as interactive installations as part of the dialog.
The powerful, multi-faceted approach made it impossible to leave the exhibit without having been touched on some level by the harsh relevance of the subject. The facility lends itself to this type of creative versatility.

Recent exhibitions have included:
- Lens on Life: From Bamako to San Francisco
