San Francisco Cable Cars - Route Map
Map includes cable car fare and ticket information.
=============
The San Francisco cable cars in operation today, are the invention of Andrew Hallidie who patented the first cable car in 1871. You can find a monument and inscription to Hallidie at the foot of Powell Street in Union Square.
Cable cars today operate as part of the San Francisco Muni public transit system.
Although San Francisco cable cars tend to be crowded with visitors during high season, they're still a viable way of getting from Union Square to Nob Hill and Fisherman's Wharf (Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason) -- or from the Embarcadero area to Polk Gulch via the California cable car line.
