Join the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, SF Bay Guardian and the Independent for a special screening of Mash SF with outtakes. Mash SF documents the style of San Francisco fixed gear culture. Free bike valet provided at the Independent.

President Jimmy Carter will be at a booksigning event at Books, Inc / Opera Plaza. The former President is in town to promote his new book A Remarkable Mother. Event is at 7p at Books Inc (601 Van Ness).

One of my favorite lecture events, the Ask a Scientist series hosts its monthly event on Potrero Hill. The event starts at 7p and features the topic: Individual Differences in Perception -- with Ariella Popple (Vision Scientist, UC Berkeley).

She'll be offering glimpses into her life and on the vision she shares with her husband Francis Ford Coppola. The reception begins at 5:30p with a 6:00p program. The Club Office is at 595 Market Street in San Francisco ($18 for non-members).

A panel of scientists and other experts will talk about the state's plan to spray pesticides from airplanes over San Francisco and other Bay Area cities. The panel will discuss spraying, its possible health effects, and why the moth isn't the agricultural emergency the CDFA is making it out to be.

The film is a fiction/documentary about the town of Fengjie during the construction of the Three Gorges Hydro project on China's Yangtze River. It focuses on the difficult choices families must make as they prepare to relocate.

In Glen Park, Bird and Beckett Books & Records hosts Jazz in the Bookshop every Friday -- with a rotating lineup of artists.

Manolo Valdes Public Art at Civic Center
Ongoing - Civic Center
If you missed the dedication ceremony in April, you didn't actually miss anything -- since the Manolo Valdes public art installation will be at Civic Center until August 31, 2008. The San Francisco Arts Commission is sponsoring the outdoor exhibition. Their previous installation is the Louise Bourgeois Crouching Spider sculpture at Pier 14.
