Miwok Trail - Trail Head on Bunker Road
This photo tour takes you from the Miwok Trail head off Bunker Road -- to the Wolf Ridge Trail junction -- then down the Coastal Trail to Rodeo Beach. Along the way you'll pass two military landmarks you may want to explore: Hill 88 and Battery Townsley.
See a Map of the Marin Headlands which includes the starting point of this hike, along with a few landmarks along the way and in the area. You can also get an overview of the trail system from this National Park Service Trail Map of the Marin Headlands
Getting to the Miwok Trail head - from San Francisco:
- Go north across the Golden Gate Bridge/US-101
- Take the Alexander Avenue exit
- Veer onto Sausalito Lateral Road, then, after a short distance, left on Bunker Road
- Follow Bunker Road for about 2.5 miles west
- The trail head will be on the right, just past the Presidio stables
From the north/Marin:
- Go south on US-101 toward San Francisco
- Take the Sausalito exit, the last exit before the Golden Gate Bridge
- Turn right on Sausalito Lateral Road, then left on Bunker Road
- See steps 4 and 5 above
You can park by the side of the road. You'll approach the Miwok trail through a short span of trail through the trees. The hike then opens up, unshaded, as you make your way toward the Wolf Ridge Trail.
