After 60 years at Civic Center, SF MOMA opened at this South-of-Market location in 1995. Swiss architect Mario Botta designed the new building, his first American project. Visiting the museum is an artistic endeavor on both a structural and fine arts level. The natural light that streams in from skylights, the central staircase, the atrium are, in effect, part of the exhibit. The SF MOMA shop is also a great place to look for interesting gift ideas and toys.
