In addition to the inherent environmental value of restoring grasslands, the native plants introduced in the context of Reed's project will provide habitat for a variety of wildlife species, including burrowing owls, pictured above.

Wildlife commonly seen in the area includes: king birds, blue birds, meadowlarks, shrikes, red-tailed hawks, kestrels, and an occasional golden eagle among bird species. Mammals living in the area include deer, meadow voles, beechy ground squirrels, foxes, bobcats, and coyotes. Reptile species include California king snakes, gopher snakes, and fence lizards.

Special status species known to inhabit the general vicinity: California tiger salamanders, red-legged frogs, western burrowing owls, and the American badger.
