Proposition 8 Protest
Photos were taken at a San Francisco protest against California's Prop 8 - on November 7, 2008. The rally began at Civic Center and moved up Market Street to the Castro and Dolores Park before returning to Civic Center.
What was originally anticipated as a gathering of hundreds, grew into a surge of thousands. The march brought traffic to a halt along the route, with a number of motorists cheering on protesters as the rally passed by the parked lines of cars.
Proposition 8 passed on the November 4, 2008 ballot -- amending the California Constitution and rescinding the right of gay couples to marry in the state.
