White Pelicans at Coyote Hills Regional Park
American white pelicans fly over the Alameda Creek Trail on their way to San Francisco Bay. The numbers and the variety of wildlife species you'll see at any of the Bay Area parks depends largely on the time of year -- with winter being more bountiful in terms of migrating birds.

Note to new bird watchers: Areas like Coyote Hills are sensitive bird habitats. Harassing birds in any way violates the Migratory Bird Act and carries steep fines and can even incur jail time. Seeing amazing wildlife is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being out on the trails. Just be sure to be respectful of all birds and wildlife, and give them adequate space.
