Battery Yates
Built in 1903, Battery Yates was armed until 1943 when all guns were removed. The battery is a concrete remnant of the Endicott era, a period of large-scale harbor defense increases.
There's an easy walk to Battery Yates behind the Bay Area Discovery Museum -- and the reward is a view toward San Francisco, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Be sure to observe all park signs, since this area (as well as the trail above Cavallo Point) is protected habitat for the endangered Mission Blue Butterfly.
