Overview of the Fire Arts Festival:
July 7 to 9, 2008
The Crucible's Fire Arts Festival is an open-air exhibit of fire-related performances, now in its eighth year (2008). You'll see a blazing Fire Vortex, fiery Tesla Coil, choreographed flame-spinning, and other forms of fire sculpture and art installations.
Metal and fire monsters are part of the interactive displays. Attendees are invited to participate in the Flamethrower Shooting Gallery which will also make its way to Burning Man later this summer.
About the Crucible:
The Fire Arts Festival springs from the creative space of Oakland's Crucible -- a non-profit arts education center, founded in 1999, which teaches fire, metal, and glass art. From blacksmithing to neon, students learn myriad skills in industrial arts.
Fire Arts Installations & Performances:
Featured acts and arts are too numerous to list here, but include: Pyronauts, an international fire-dance performance troupe; Copper Lantern Fire Theater, acrobatic fire performance; Bizarro Saguaro, fiery sculptures created from discarded motorcycle exhaust mufflers; and Fire Flowers installations.
See the full Fire Arts Festival lineup here.
Patron Pavilion:
The Patron Pavilion tacks another $50 to the price of a ticket, but provides a patron courtyard, live video of main stage, private bar, and a bypass of the ticket line.
Proceeds from the Patron Pavilion and Fire Arts Festival help support the Crucible's education programs for youth and adults.
