About A Traveling Jewish Theatre:

The Traveling Jewish Theatre's stated mission is:

. . . to reach people from all cultural backgrounds by creating and presenting theatre that shares the Jewish vision of "tikkun olam", repair or healing of the world. (ATJT Website)

To that end, the theater works with artists of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and explores a variety of themes through its content. The Traveling Jewish Theatre was founded in 1978, has performed in more than 60 countries and provides professional training programs taught by members of the ensemble.

The Theatre Space:

The Traveling Jewish Theatre acquired the San Francisco venue on Florida Street in 1994, then renovated the space in 1998 to incorporate a new lobby, entrance, and lift for wheelchair users.

Entering the theater, you descend a small staircase to the lobby area. The lobby is small but contains two restrooms and several places to sit and enjoy refreshments. There is plenty of space outside on relatively quiet Florida Street, to get some air during intermission.

The theater seats 90 people, in comfortable cinema-style seats with no obstructed views. There is space at front for wheelchair access.

Parking and Public Transit:

Parking in the neighborhood is not as difficult as it is in many other parts of San Francisco. We were able to find street parking just 20 minutes in advance of the performance, around the corner from the venue.

The 16th Street BART station is about 1/2 mile from the venue.

The #12 Folsom bus and the #27 Bryant run just a few blocks from the theatre. You can also use the #14 Mission and #49 Mission-Van Ness (along Mission Street) or the #9 San Bruno (on Potrero) or #33 Stanyan (along 16th).
