Weekend Events in San Francisco

Thursday August 23, 2007
Check this weekend's calendar for additional arts and entertainment.

  • Fellini fans won't want to miss the free, outdoor showing of 8-1/2 -- this weekend at Washington Square Park. It's the film Roger Ebert called the best film ever made about filmmaking. Film begins at 8p and is, of course, in Italian with subtitles.
  • The San Francisco Symphony plays a free performance at Yerba Buena Gardens tomorrow -- Friday, August 24. Enjoy your lunch (not included) sounds of Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and other composers.
  • Aurora Theater presents the opening of Hysteria -- a comedic play that re-imagines that last days of Sigmund Freud. The play opens on Friday, August 24 and runs through September 30.
  • In celebration of the Year of the Boar, Oakland hosts two days of Asian food and specialty products at the Oakland Chinatown Streetfest. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday (August 24 & 25) in downtown Oakland (from 7th to 11th and from Harrison to Broadway). Hours are 10a to 6p.
  • For the third year, Space Gallery hosts a week of Graphic Content: Tee Shirt Show. The show gives local designers a chance to showcase their wearable art. Graphic Content runs through August 27, with a 7p reception on Friday night (August 24).
  • See more than 150 items at Da Vinci: Exhibition of Genius at the Metreon (through December). The exhibit at the Metreon is the North American premiere, and Jennifer Alpeche has the Da Vinci run down.
See list of live music clubs in San Francisco for club calendars and additional weekend performances.
