SFJAZZ Center's inaugural concert tonight is sold out, but you can catch it live starting at 8 pm on KALW (91.7 FM) San Francisco, KCSM (91.1 FM) San Mateo and online at NPR Music's website. With comedian Bill Cosby as emcee and Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Esperanza Spalding, Joshua Redman, Mary Stallings and many other jazz stars performing and improvising, it's a must-hear for anyone who likes jazz.
On Thursday, the new center's first season starts. Expect lots more great jazz of all varieties, plus multimedia performances, film, poetry, first-ever collaborations, and even skateboarders, which we cover in our guide to the 19-week season.
