Open Space San Francisco - Community Workshops

Thursday February 19, 2009
In January of this year, Open Space San Francisco: 2100 announced a series of community workshops to solicit public input on the future of San Francisco's parks and open spaces.

The Open Space initiative outlines what San Francisco's ideal open space network will look like in the coming 100 years. If you look at the vision map (pdf) you'll see a network of eco-corridors traversing the city, as well as proposed new open space and improvements in existing areas.

Among the goals of the program: 1) to ensure that every San Franciscan is within a 10-minute walk from an open space area greater than one acre, 2) build eco-corridors that allow for both human and wildlife movement across the city, 3) a system of public transit and green streets connecting people to open space.

To learn more, to be involved, to have a say in the open space future, you can attend an upcoming community workshop in your area. Check the website for full schedule details.

What a great green program! I really love all of the things that San Francisco does to try to maintain a lot of natural beauty here despite having so many people in such a small urban space. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done in this city is the free Open Public Spaces tour by CityGuides Walking Tours which shows you all of the rooftop gardens and natural spaces in the Financial District. I’m eager to see what happens with this particular plan you’ve written about.

I agree. Green space! Everywhere! Minutes away. It’s one of the main things that makes the Bay Area so special. Access. Yes!
