Tuesdays With Rosamunde
This post was inspired by a recent Facebook discussion, debating the merits of Northern California burgers. Getting a burger at Rosamunde is like a lottery, given the excruciatingly small window of service and the queue that forms on Tuesdays. I admit to eating lower on the food chain, so I'm spared the rigors of getting one of those sought-after pieces of meat. For those in the burger know, Rosamunde Sausage Grill's Tuesday burger specialties rank among the better and best. And like other San Francisco institutions (Dottie's True Blue comes to mind) there's personal sacrifice involved in the final reward. For less exclusive burger fare on non-specific days, I refer you to Allison Serrell's Best Burgers in San Francisco which includes Zuni's almost-famous burger, Mega Mouth (aka Big Mouth), and the not-so-slow but local favorite Slow Club. For burgers that garner a mixture of love and "eh" -- but served with a piece of San Francisco history in the shadow of the Bay Bridge, there's always Red's Java House on the Embarcadero. And don't forget North Beach standby Mo's Grill which still manages to pull in ratings on its ground beefy selection.
Rosamunde is at 545 Haight Street (near Fillmore). The grill action starts at 11:30am.
