Winds Fuel New Fires in Southern California

Saturday November 15, 2008
Thursday's fire in Montecito was only 40 percent contained this morning when additional fires broke out around Southern California. A new fire in Sylmar burned 600 mobile homes and forced 10,000 people to evacuate -- in what are described as hurricane-force Santa Ana winds. New fires ignited in Corona, Yorba Linda, Rancho Palos Verdes, and Brea. (The Los Angeles Times has a map of the affected areas.).

Local L.A. television websites with additional information: KTLA | KCAL 9 | ABC 7 | KNBC.

The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is responding to the Sylmar "Sayre" fire, providing updates and resources online -- including a map of evacuation centers. Donations are always appreciated. In any disaster monitored by the Red Cross, you can always check the Red Cross Safe and Well registration page to see if your family member or friend is registered as 'safe.' CBS2 has shelter updates as well as information on animal evacuation resources.

We wish our Southern California neighbors (humans and animals both) safety and well-being . . . and a speedy change in weather and wind.
