Final Weekend of SF Open Studios

Tuesday October 28, 2008
Scanning the Weekend 5 Map and directory of SF Open Studios will give you a glimpse into the artistic bounty you'll find at Hunters Point on November 1 and 2. The final weekend of the month-long event features 200 artists in one location, exhibiting and selling their art according to their own design and pricing parameters.

San Francisco Open Studios has more than thirty years of history in a city which, according to the NEA, has the highest number of artists per capita. Open Studios provides local artists with a showcase, and gives art lovers an invitation into the personal workspaces of the artists.

Last year, nearly 1000 San Francisco-based artists exhibited their work, and an estimated 60,000 people turned out to view it. This weekend, visitors can spend the day at Hunter's Point doing the same, appreciating a variety of media and installations, all concentrated at Hunters Point Shipyard.

It doesn’t surprise me at all to learn that tidbit about the per capita artists here but it’s still a really amazing thing to think about. It’s one of the many reasons to love this city!
