Hewitt Collection Opens at MoAD

Monday October 20, 2008
The Hewitt Collection of African American Art represents 50 years of art collecting by John and Vivian Hewitt -- and fifty-eight works from artists such as Romare Bearden, Ernest Crichlow and Ann Tanksley.

Bank of America is behind the exhibition, having purchased the collection from the Hewitts in the late 1990s. The exhibit has been touring nationally. And it opened at San Francisco's Museum of the African Diaspora last week.

The Hewitt Collection of African American Art runs through January 11, 2009. The museum and store are open Wednesday through Sunday, with the exception of certain holidays. Regular museum admission for adults is $10, senior and student admission is $5, and children 12 and under get in for free.
