Total Solar Eclipse 2008 - August 1 View From San Francisco
Occurs on August 1, 2008
According to the Exploratorium's Solar Eclipse World Map the next total eclipse we'll see from the United States will be in 2017. The August 1, 2008 eclipse has a viewing trajectory that leads from Canada, across the Arctic and into China.
Short of booking airline tickets to Mongolia, the best viewing option (in San Francisco) happens at the Exploratorium. It's an overnight party with expert commentary -- and a live feed from China, where an Exploratorium eclipse expedition will webcast from Xinjiang Provence.
The party starts at 9pm on July 31, at the Exploratorium. The webcast from China begins at 3:30am on August 1. See details as they're updated at the Exploratorium Eclipse Website.
If you're new to San Francisco, check a map of the Marina District for location. The Exploratorium is at the Palace of Fine Arts.
