Update July 3, 2008: 55,000 acres have now burned, with mandatory evacuations. See the SurFire2008 website below for additional information and another post here on Big Sur Fire Blogging.
There's a new website and information hub for the Big Sur fires: SurFire2008.org. If you need housing or can offer housing -- want to make a donation, volunteer for the hotline, or get the latest fire updates -- check in at the site for more information.
According to the latest, posted this morning:
- The Basin Complex fire has burned more than 47,000 acres
- The fire is just 3 percent contained
- Total personnel involved: 1386 (including 37 fire crews)

A mandatory evacuation was issued for both sides of Highway 1 in the area, effective at 5:00pm today. You can find more updates, information and photos at the Central Coast Radio website.
