See The Birds and The Blob - in Live Action

Attack of the Killer B-Movies at the Dark Room Theater - May/June 2008

If I mention that the Rocky Horror Picture Show became the rage while I was in high school, does that betray my age -- in a way that my postage-stamp-sized image does not? (Yes).

It's relevant to this post because: 1) I was infused at a young age with campy stage shows, and 2) I've had enough time to see a good chunk of B Movies. So, I can appreciate the beautiful fusion the Dark Room Theater is pulling together next month.

From May 1 to June 7, The Dark Room presents three horror classics: The Birds, The Bad Seed, and The Blob. But not in the traditional celluloid sense. Playwright Sean Owens (voted Best Comic Playwright in the SF Weekly) streamlined these stories for a stage presentation by an acting ensemble.

Attack of the Killer B-Movies happens from May 1 to June 7, 2008. Each film gets its set of weekends, and will run on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

  • May 1 to May 10: The Birds
  • May 15 to May 24: The Bad Seed
  • May 29 to June 7: The Blob
Tickets are $15 (online at brownpapertickets.com) or $20 at the door.

The Dark Room is at 2263 Mission Street (between 18th and 19th). See a San Francisco Neighborhood Map if you're new to SF and need some directional bearings.
