2008 Olympic Torch Route in San Francisco

Sunday April 6, 2008
There's a possibility the torch route will be changed for security reasons -- and the changes may not be publicized. Stay tuned to local news for any updates on the route pictured here.

Update: 4/9/08 - See the San Francisco Chronicle's coverage of today's torch run disruption at the Embarcadero.

The 2008 Olympic Torch makes its controversial run through San Francisco on April 9 -- the torch's only North American stop between Europe and Buenos Aires.

Protestors in support of Tibet and of human rights are not restricted from gathering at the torch relay along the Embarcadero. Some protests briefly disrupted the official torch lighting in Greece, and additional protests are expected along the Olympic torch's global path.

A perfect opportunity for China to put on a fake face leading everyone to believe it’s changed. The Olympic torch is nothing but a tool for China, and the peaceful message of the Olympics is being used by China to portray itself in a way it is not.
