Coyotes in Golden Gate Park - Was Shooting Them the Only Option?

Sunday July 22, 2007
Last week, California Fish and Game made the decision to shoot two coyotes in Golden Gate Park. The coyotes -- animals that are usually more docile and shy around humans -- were reported to have attacked a large dog in the park.

As you might imagine, the action tapped into a wellspring of emotion and anger among Bay Area residents. In a city that has a reputation for a more compassionate and environmental ethic, the actions of Fish and Game did not sit well with hundreds of readers who poured into blogs and comment sections at the San Francisco Chronicle, weighing in on the story.

Read about what inspired the controversial coyote shootings, and see what other Bay Area residents had to say about the actions taken by Fish and Game.
